With so many releases budding in late 08 / early 09 we at Joyful Noise thought it might be a good idea to put together a Digital Sampler showcasing our releases from November 08 into 2009. This is by no means a complete list of everything we will release in the coming year - but this will give you a pretty good idea of what we're looking at.
Below are a few reasons why we love each of these bands.
The Delicious: The Delicious are sarcastic doomsday soothsayers - elegantly constructing ridiculously addictive experimental indie-pop for math-rock enthusiasts, jazz purists, and indie rock-snobs alike. This track comes from their debut album, which will be properly re-released in January, 2009.
Hi Red Center: An endearingly odd and distorted version of a barbershop quartet. We are so happy to be working with this NYC based group. Their sophomore album "Assemble" is due out February, 2009. If you are a fan of vibraphones, sung rounds, noisy guitars, highly controlled melodic breakdowns, asyncopation, false starts and sudden endings - this is an album for you.
Abner Trio: This will be the girlfriend's favorite song. It's been a while but the band is nearly done with their sophomore full-length! Abner Trio is experimenting with new sounds and arrangements throughout some of the album, though much of it contains their patented off-kilter indie-spoken-word-pop. But not this track. This is all new. No word on the release date yet.
Prizzy Prizzy Please: Prog-infused, crust-punk arena-rock. The more we hear this band the more we like them. This track is from a November 2008 release with Push-Pull titled the PPPPPEP.
Grampall Jookabox: Old-time spirituals, folk, punk, chain-gang hymnals, and tribal-trashcan-club music of the future blend into a cohesive and unique synthesis - in an end product which they dub "Jungle Folk." Ropechain was released on JNR and Asthmatic Kitty in Nov 2008. Expect much more music from this guy.
Bizzart: ...just Jackson-Pollacked all over your hip-hop. Bizzart's new album is his most accessible album to date: a sprawling structure of heart break and the journey of being lost in love. His sugnature sound-collage version of hip-hop has never sounded so good. Due out in February, 2009.
Valina: Austria's finest - Valina makes music for those who appreciate great song writing as much as jaw-dropping technical math-rock. Their amazing new album "A Tempo! A Tempo!" will finally have a US release in March 2009.
Push-Pull: I can't explain how great their new album is... This is rock music at it's best: interesting, progressive, unpretentious, and heavy without being obnoxious. The new alum "Between Noise And The Indians" is due out in April 2009.
Man At Arms: Noisy rock which involves an uncomfortably subtle sense of humor, amazing musicianship, and a disproportionate amount of lyrics that could be included in your "Physics For Poets" course. New album out Nov 2008.
Stationary Odyssey: A unique and unpredictable blend of noise-rock. Aggressive guitars, atmospheric sounds, electro beats, noise, and pop melodies all find their way into the music of Stationary Odyssey. No release date scheduled.
Marmoset: Marmoset needs no introduction. They have recorded some of the best albums we have ever heard, and their uniquely Velvet Underground / Swell Maps-laden style hadsn't slowed down a bit. It is an honor and a privilege for Joyful Noise to be the home for their upcoming 4th full-length "Tea Tornado".
