"Arellanes’ intuition, his affinity for the “almost groove,” the subtle shifts of formal expectations, and the breadth of voices, sounds, and misplaced signifiers on Future Stars make it worth a lot more attention than its 32-minute runtime." "If you load up Future Stars And Small Wonders, Here's what you're going to hear: shout-rap vocals that generally favour oblique lyrical abstraction, weird juxtapositions of sound, erratic/glitchy electronics, schizophrenic loops, acoustic guitar/piano, and vocal samples that seem to bear no connection to the songs in which they are placed. Certainly, there's a lot of effort that's gone into this, even just to achieve the amount of layering and mashing of sounds (sometimes complimentary, sometimes intentionally discordant). Song structures are anything but standardized - constantly doubling back on you and breaking conventions that have been set up in the first two minutes of a song only to frustrate or intrigue the listener. " "...his sound design, which throws jazz and classical samples, glitch, rock instrumentation and other fun stuff into a mix that sounds sometimes like futuristic electronica and sometimes like straight-ahead jazz." "Packaged in a simple digipack that contains no mention of the artist or album title, containing liner notes written in HTML code, and featuring an amorphous, not always melodic collage of sound, Bizzart's Future Stars and Small Wonders is a difficult album to get a proper handle on. At its most basic, Future Stars is an indie hip hop album by former spoken-word artist-turned-emcee Arthur Arellanes, but this description ignores the glitch-heavy electronics that dominate the album, which in turn ignores the piano-led singsong numbers... The album is an obfuscated listen, but it's also a rewarding one." "With a mixture of circus freak instrumentation, booming bass and a mixed bag of samples, Bizzart is an exciting young musician. With his first release for Joyful Noise, "Future Stars And Small Wonders", Arthur Arellanes III (A.K.A Bizzart) combines his spiritual past with his love for beat construction and sound art." "Bizzart's fourth is his first with producer Innaspace, and I'm not quite sure whom to give more credit. Bizzart's performance is equal parts Zack de la Rocha, El-P, Tunde Adebimpe and Saul Williams, if their disjointed, paranoid deliveries all meshed together in an oddly melodic gumbo one would not expect from a pre-school teacher. I may give even higher praise to Innaspace. We bounce between the organized indie-hip-hop chaos of "Hearts" to the techno dub of "Future Girls," all big drums and sound collage. Factor in the folkie beds given to "My Sister's in Jail" and "Leaves My Eyes When I'm Not There," the Spanish flavor of instrumental closer "Wood is Whyte," and I'm left in awe of this weird little record by these weird little guys. Fantastic." "Inventive hip hop. Sounds oxymoronic but this is fresh fresh meat" "Bizzart is the Blood Brothers of modern hip-hop, a few of the songs are barely controlled cacophony but with Bizzart's and producer Christian Gibson's (aka Innaspace) Master of Ceremonies direction they just stop short of teetering over the edge. Bizzart has toured with such artists as: Shapeshifters, Buck 65, Abe Vigoda, and Melt Banana... Future Stars sees Bizzart exploring the frailties of the human heart in relationships." "Bizzart has made yet another brilliant album - Great!" "Future Stars And Small Wonders is an expansive album of political chants; fast intellectual vocals combine with spoken word pre-recorded backing tracks and overlay sparse instrumentation that spreads Bizzart across a number of musical genres... Stand-out tracks include 'Changing Stars', a slowish RnB number that echoes Radiohead via electronics and backing vocals that sound a lot like Thom Yorke. 'Hookers and Bling' is a passionate hip-hop track with quick rhymes pointing towards a poignant message of anger and frustration. Bizzart pushes boundaries on a good portion of the album and rides the fine line between political hip-hop and electronic RnB nicely. His inspired music is a call to arms from a different perspective, and it's interesting to hear a new take on many of these topics. 8/10"" "Arthur Arellanes III (A.K.A Bizzart) has been steadily evolving a sound that takes hip hop, experimental, dub, video game noise and strings to sculpt a pop landscape that is whole unique. Sometimes dark with abstract and grotesque angles, sometimes a dream-like collage, weaving personal story lines and keen observation into a synthesis of influences, the whole of the record is more than the sum of it's parts." "With his fourth effort Bizzart again varied his approach to hip-hop with sound collage, which include electronic beats, vocal samples and other sound effects. "Future Stars And Small Wonders" translates to a plethora of feelings... you start with the rhythmic harmonies of "Android Hearts" by moving to the threatening atmosphere of "Hookers and Bling" and sound experiments of "Future Girls" and concluding the trip with caressing melodies of "Marthur" and "Wood Is Whyte." A very mixed album that maintains a strong and cohesive identity that surprising for writing clear and smooth." "..a collage of soundscapes, voices, guitar, beats, manipulated sounds, etc... the album is highly anticipated." "...there is actually something worth listening to in Bizzart's songs which are punctuated by some nice beats and samples along the way" |
