Joan of Arc has just announced a new album! Testimonium Songs collects the song cycle composed by Joan of Arc (Tim Kinsella, Bobby Burg, and Theo Katsaounis) to be performed live in Testimonium, a work of performance by well-respected experimental theater ensemble Every House Has a Door.
Testimonium responds -- both in substance and in style --to Charles Reznikoff's monumental work Testimony, a translation into poetry of courtroom transcripts of witness and victim testimonies in criminal cases and cases of workplace negligence, in the US, spanning the years 1885 to 1915. Performances of Testimonium incorporate modern dance, theater, and original songs written and played by Joan of Arc.
Our friends at Polyvinyl are releasing the album on CD / LP, and we are releasing the cassette! The cassette version is limited to just 100 hand-numbered copies on purple tint cassettes. $8 purchase includes an MP3 download.
We are very pleased to announce that Son Lux has signed with Joyful Noise!
Son Lux is Ryan Lott - music school grad, member of sss (with Serengeti & Sufjan Stevens), and one of the most inventive composers around. Son Lux’s debut recording, At War With Walls and Mazes (Anticon), earned him the title of "Best New Artist" by NPR's All Songs Considered. In 2011 he followed up this release with We Are Rising, an album written and recorded in just 28 days. And just last week Son Lux contributed to our 2013 Flexi Disc series with the cryptic and dreamy single "Black Waters".
Son Lux's third album, titled "Lanterns" is slated for release in October. As a precursor, we are releasing TEAR, a conceptual 7" featuring one new song in two distinct parts. The music featured on TEAR is exclusive to this 7" and will not be included on the upcoming full-length. However, this'll give you a taste of the next-level shit you can expect to hear on "Lanterns".
TEAR is limited to just 300 copies on glass-green w/ black haze vinyl. Featuring custom letterpress artwork, each copy is hand-numbered and signed by Ryan Lott (aka Son Lux). $7 purchase includes an instant MP3 Download.
We are pumped as hell to announce the first ever solo album from David Yow! Best known as the frontman/singer of The Jesus Lizard, Tonight You Look Like A Spider marks David Yow's introduction into "solo album" territory. Terrifying, noisy, solo album territory... VICE describes the effect as "a doom-filled atmosphere and hair-rising percussion that kicks your brain down some stairs into a smelly dungeon". Yep, that's pretty accurate...
Officially released on June 25, the album is available in three physical versions:
The Deluxe "Monolith" Vinyl Edition
Limited to 50 copies, hand-crafted by David Yow himself... Artwork includes an actual cement vinyl-displaying-sculpture (picture below), created from the same mold pictured on the front cover. Each copy is hand-made (by David Yow), hand-numbered (by David Yow), signed (by David Yow), and shipped directly to purchasers from David fucking Yow. The vinyl features grey/black vinyl (combined using the "A Side/B Side" method) w/ gold & white splatter. Vinyl is shipped separately for safety, with standard LP jacket artwork also included. Purchase includes an advanced download of the entire album.
