September 14, 2009 Joyful Noise is pleased to announce today the signing of the prolific, virtuosic, and nomadic bassplayer C.J. Boyd. C.J. has been creating his ethereal soundscapes for nearly a decade, playing hundreds of shows and conveying his particular artistic ideals wherever his vegetable-propelled ambulance takes him. JNR sister label Sounds Are Active released C.J.'s last true album "The Greatest Weight" in 2006. On November 10, Joyful Noise will be releasing his newest work - the 3 song, 45 minute Aerial Roots. Often flowing from singular, meditative bass lines into explosive, layered, and hugely complex walls of sound, CJ masterfully orchestrates waves of bass loops coupled with Jazz-driven improvisational prowess. C.J. Boyd's vision spawns a record that is quite beautiful, and at times enlightening. As Tiny Mix Tapes puts it, “this is heavenly stuff”... September 1, 2009 Joyful Noise is happy to announce today the signing of Kansas City's best kept secret - a band known as 'I Love You'. The band self-released their debut album "Drone, Drugs, and Harmony" in 2008, which was championed by Alarm Magazine as "conceptually daring in both dance-punk and art-rock" and was called "a welcome breath of fresh air" by Beyond Race. Though "Drone, Drugs, and Harmony" definitely caught (and confused) our ears, the bands second album Bell Ord Forrest left our jaws on the floor. These are twisted, slightly menacing, yet somehow danceable tunes of indulgence and self-destruction. Their combination of noisy DIY punk with thumpin' dub bass is catchier than you think - conveying emotional depth, pop sensibility, and madness. But mostly madness. So, to further confuse the subject, there is something you should understand about the band's moniker... “I Love You” is merely the English translation of the “real” band name which is “Yah Tibyah La Blu” (the phonetic Russian rendering of “I Love You”). Though the band can be referred to by both names, "I Love You" has become the dominant moniker (seemingly drunk people can't remember 'yah tube yah...what') The band's second album, Bell Ord Forrest will be released worldwide on October 27. Until then, download the album opener: The Colloquialism Is Simply "Gas"
August 25, 2009 We are extremely happy to be bringing you yet another amazing Jookabox album this November, in co-operation with our friends at Asthmatic Kitty Records. The new album, titled Dead Zone Boys, is an infectious soundtrack to humanity's last stand against decay and the dead... Last year after wrapping up Ropechain, the genre-warping Jookabox lost a Grampall (after a haunting vision), and regrouped, gaining a second member/drummer, Ostry Okerson. This year Jookabox absorbed two-fifths of Indianapolis' psych-pop ringleaders, Everthus the Deadbeats. Expect this one to quickly become a cult classic. Until November, enjoy "Phantom Don't Go" for free, the bone-on-bone drumbeat opener to the album, HERE.

July 18, 2009 Our favorite Philadelphia based cross-dressers are embarking on a massive tour today in support of their newly released, and already critically acclaimed album Slight Fountain. Over the next 44 days, Hermit Thrushes are taking their chaotic, polyrhythmic pop through nearly every DIY spot from coast to coast - culminating with a Daytrotter session on August 27. The Hermit Thrushes stage show has often been the subject controversy and frequently features cross-dressings, rainbow outfits, outrageous acrobatics and high kicks. June 30, 2009 To celebrate July 4th, the Boston Phoenix is presenting their second-annual state-by-state guide to the best bands in the country - declaring the best new bands from each of the 50 states. And what bands are representing Indiana and Michigan? It's our very own (Grampall) Jookabox and Child Bite! We are very proud of our boys. If you like, you can give a thumbs-up the bands using the fancy map on the Phoenix's site: thephoenix.com/Supplements/2009/50States.
June 15, 2009 A split of monstrous proportions – Boston's Big Bear and Detroit's Child Bite have joined together to inject post-punk prowess into this otherwise lifeless piece of translucent green vinyl. The split will hit the streets July 7, 2009, exploiting sounds ranging from Dark-Math-Soul to Demented-Cutsie-Grind-Pop. This release is the second of three splits that Child Bite will be putting out this summer, the first was with This Moment In Black History in June (Forge Again Records), and the last will be with Prussia in August. In celebration of their collective abilities at add "post" prefixes to whatever they touch - both bands will be touring in support of the split - with release shows scheduled in Boston (Big Bear's hometown), Detroit (Child Bite's hometown) and Bloomington, Indiana (er - sort of the label's hometown). TOUR DATES:

June 1, 2009 Our favorite band of Mikes is back. The Bloomington, Indiana three piece known as Push-Pull (aka: Mike Bridavsky, Mike Hoggatt, and Mike Notaro) are set to release their first full-length in 4 years -- the anthemic art-rock monstrosity known as Between Noise And The Indians (Out June 23, 2009) In addition to the CD, Joyful Noise is releasing a limited run of original artwork pieces from Mark Rice - who did the artwork for the album. These unique hand-made works of art (dubbed the "Burly Indian Noise Kit") will be limited to 33 units, and will be sold with digital download codes of the entire album. These will only be available in the live setting. The following statements are true about the Burly Indian Noise Kit: All Burly Indian Noise Kits... 1. are one of a kind.2. feature a digital download code located in the belly of the kit. (Using this code will ensure a proper fetch of the delicious sounds of Push-Pull.) 3. are made from roughly 90% recycled materials 4. include a Sick Stick, Analog Barcode, Non-violent Rifle, hunk of Glow-in-the-dark Dragon's Breath, and portrait of a local feline. 5. are limited to 33 hand-numbered copies Push-Pull is also kicking off a Midwest tour this week, and will have both the CD and Burly Indian Noise Kits available for purchase. Tour Dates: February 10, 2009 Joyful Noise has just officially released two fabulous albums from opposite sides of the country / musical spectrum... HI RED CENTER Needless to say, we are big fans of New York City's Hi Red Center and their twisted, schizophrenic version of pop. Time Out New York says that their new album Assemble "features enough brainy harmonies and jagged rhythms to please the egghead set, but it also plays just fine as a left-field pop record." We couldn't agree more.Listen to a track from the new album: Symmetry Chameleon (mp3) To purchase the CD or download the album go HERE The band is also hitting the road this week in support of the new album. With his fourth full-length album, Future Stars And Small Wonders, Bizzart's patented sound-collage-hip-hop takes on a more focused and listenable form. Teaming up for the first time with producer and creative director Christian Gibson, a.k.a Innaspace, the duo have weaved an album out of drum machine samples, circuit bent instruments, SKRAP Hop sensibilities and manipulated field recordings into a world of sonic sound art wonder.
