Always one to be exploring new musical directions, Kevin Barnes (of Montreal's main creative force) has once again showcased his versatile talent as a songwriter with Paralytic Stalks. This is an album that contains some of Barnes' most personal confessions since 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? Musically, Paralytic Stalks is a whilrwind of modern classical, neo-prog, pseudo-country, and 60's pop - showing hints of Barne's extensive past repertoire, while intimately engaging listeners in a way like never before.
The cassette version of the album is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies on GREEN TINT tapes. Instant MP3 download is included.

January 30, 2012Less than 50 copies remain of the amazing new LP from Jad Fair + Hifiklub + kptmichigan: Bird House!
With "Bird House", the legendary Jad Fair has teamed up with prolific French artist Hifiklub and Germany's kptmichigan to produce some of his most artistically engaging music in years. Best known as the founding member of Half Japanese, and collaborator with a slew of artists including Teenage Fanclub, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and Daniel Johnston - Jad Fair has firmly established his stature as a pioneer of lo-fi indie rock. Unlike the traditionally simple, playful style of Half Japanese, the new LP features hypnotic, fluid musicianship alongside Jad Fair's psychologically imbalanced vocal style. The end result is a strangely listenable blend of atmospherically tempered experimentalism.
"Bird House" is limited to a one-time pressing of just 300 hand-numbered 12" records. This single-sided LP features original Jad Fair artwork which is screen-printed directly on Side B of the record, and is packaged in a picture-disc sleeve. The first 45 copies were pressed on translucent gold vinyl with black ink - and sold out in no time flat. We have LESS THAN 50 COPIES remaining on beautiful translucent yellow vinyl with red ink (images below).

Kishi Bashi signs with Joyful Noise!
January 19, 2012We are very pleased to announce that the amazing violin virtuoso (and of Montreal band member) Kishi Bashi has signed with Joyful Noise!
Kishi Bashi's debut full length "151a" will be released April 10th on CD, Digital, and White Vinyl. Kishi Bashi will also be touring this March and April opening for of Montreal and Deerhoof throughout the US and Europe.
Also, Spin Magazine has just premiered the new "weightless, cartwheeling electro-pop romp" song from the album called "It All Began With A Burst". Stream and download the song HERE!

The 23-date US tour kicks off with release shows in Champaign and Chicago on January 20th and 21st (tour dates below).

PUSH-PULL TOUR / RELEASE NEW ALBUM ON CD & "BURLY INDIAN NOISE KIT"
June 1, 2009Our favorite band of Mikes is back. The Bloomington, Indiana three piece known as Push-Pull (aka: Mike Bridavsky, Mike Hoggatt, and Mike Notaro) are set to release their first full-length in 4 years -- the anthemic art-rock monstrosity known as Between Noise And The Indians (Out June 23, 2009)
In addition to the CD, Joyful Noise is releasing a limited run of original artwork pieces from Mark Rice - who did the artwork for the album. These unique hand-made works of art (dubbed the "Burly Indian Noise Kit") will be limited to 33 units, and will be sold with digital download codes of the entire album. These will only be available in the live setting.
