April 6, 2010 Today the always hip Tiny Mix Tapes posted an exclusive sneak peak at CJ Boyd's live album "Alternate Roots". Officially released on April 20, "Alternate Roots" is a live memory sketch of the meditative, expansive, and chamber-esque LP Aerial Roots, released last November. Recorded live on one fateful night in Boone, North Carolina - "Alternate Roots" - allows listeners a window into the subtle balance of improvisational and calculable arrangements weaved throughout the music of "Aerial Roots". For a limited time, download the album for free from Tiny Mix Tapes!: tinymixtapes.com/chocolate-grinder/exclusive-cj-boyd-alternate-roots-full-album. March 9, 2010 In an effort to prime the masses to the sound of unorthodox, guitar-less, noise/arena rock, Prizzy Prizzy Please have digitally re-released their debut album on Joyful Noise Recordings. The band's epic new album Chroma Cannon will be released on April 20, and available as of March 9th, the self-titled debut Prizzy Prizzy Please is finally available for download via iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, and the JNR site. Originally released in 2007 on Let's Pretend Records, this album is loaded with shout-along party anthems and unbridled irreverence. Prizzy Prizzy Please has managed to carve a musical niche with the power of zebra snack cakes, slam dunks, and piles of beer-soaked confetti - showcasing chainsaw-metallic keyboard lines, generously frosted with saxophone blasts running atop a ballistic drum and bass section. Though the upcoming LP "Chroma Cannon" is firmly planted in their "hanging out with Ravi Shankar phase", the self-titled album encompasses a more playful tone, derived from countless PBR-soaked Bloomington house shows. March 1, 2010 We are very happy to welcome Berry to the JNR family! Currently based in Chicago, the boys in Berry compose a curious hybrid of classic songwriting within Rubik’s-Cube-structures. They have a knack for marrying meticulously detailed instrumentation with genuinely alluring pop - seemingly bridging a gap between White-Album-era Beatles and the forward-thinking indie-rock of bands like Joan of Arc or Granddaddy. The result is an array of post-modern indie epics which are dense, delicate, graceful, and perplexing. The band’s first for Joyful Noise, Blue Sky, Raging Sun, contains 43 minutes of their boldest musical statements to date. The album will be released 05/19/10 on LP & MP3. DOWNLOADS! Download the album opener "Out" here: joyfulnoiserecordings.com/mp3/jnr49.mp3 TOUR DATES! February 15, 2010 On March 9 Joyful Noise will be issuing an extremely limited cassette split from Jookabox and Kid Primitive Family. The Jookabox / Kid Primitive Family split is an ethereal, percussive-heavy exercise in existential musical chairs. Jookabox, who just released their third album "Dead Zone Boys" (Asthmatic Kitty/Joyful Noise), re-discover their folk roots on Side A. A far cry from the bombastic-zombie-funk of DZB, these are intimate, home-recorded experiments and re-interpretations of older material going all the way back to the days of Grampall Jookabox's 2007 debut "Scientific Cricket". Side B showcases Chicago's Kid Primitive Family exploring guided meditation, Tuvinian throat singing, and strange new-world mysticism. Throughout the record, hip-hop tendencies weave in and out, pulsating percussion and echoey, layered vocals abound, and consciousness generally expands. Jookabox gets you in the mood, and Kid Primitive lures you over the edge. The release is limited to just 100 cassette copies, complete with Digital Download coupon, and is now available for pre-order! Get your hands on these early because physical copies will sell out quick! PRE-ORDER! $7. Will ship March 8th - Add To Cart DOWNLOADS! Jookabox - John Kill Meets the Brick People Kid Primitive Family - The Sun (Dance) Also, did we mention... February 12, 2010 Stationary Odyssey have just released a video for "Johnfriend" - one of the many stand-out tracks from the excellent Sons Of Boy. Funny cameos from CJ Boyd and the boys in Child Bite abound. Check it out here: Video by Matt Giorio
February 2, 2010 Today we are pleased to announce the signing of anomalous rockers Prizzy Prizzy Please. With a 30th century aesthetic, PPP has a sound that strives to imbue melodic noise punk (reminiscent of Parts and Labor, Lightning Bolt) with the spirit of fourth-quarter pump-up jams by Van Halen and the E Street Band. They have no guitarist, no decent equipment, and are fronted by a timid alto saxophonist who howls like Bon Scott. We admit that it’s hard to pin these guys down, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Currently stationed in a Chicago basement, Prizzy Prizzy Please got their start in the basements of Bloomington, Indiana – releasing their debut recording with Let’s Pretend Records in 2007, and with Joyful Noise the PPPPPEP split 7" with Push-Pull in 2009. Since 2007 they have been campaigning across the United States in a decomposing van, enthusiastically making their way through a network of unruly house shows and five-band bills where they are consistently odd men out. The band's new LP Chroma Cannon will be released on April 20, 2010 on LP, CD, Digital, and limited edition Cassette. DOWNLOADS! Offered right now as a teaser is the album's catchy-as-hell opener Large Hadron Collider and the epic-as-hell second track Lost. For the full effect download both and play in succession.
March 1, 2009 Our boy Grampall Jookabox (or just "Jookabox" as the name is developing) is about to embark on a ridiculous tour including the entire United States and Europe, and ending with a home-town performance at a Joyful Noise Showcase on May 15. In addition, the band has been working on a follow-up to the acclaimed Ropechain which is set to be released late summer on Asthmatic Kitty / Joyful Noise.
