July 28, 2010 Nearly 3 years in the making, Abner Trio's second full length is (finally) slated for release on August 24, 2010! Available in LP, Cassette, and Digital (no CDs this time folks), The Giant Crushes You is hands-down the most accomplished documentation of their mathy, artsy, honest, and all-around original blend of indie-rock. Abner Trio have created an album that triangulates exactness, rawness and beauty - building upon their patented sound which has drawn a select demographic of dorky music listeners into obsessive fandom. The album was recorded and mixed by Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording, mastered and cut to vinyl by John Golden (Melvins, Sonic Youth, etc), and pressed on LP by RTI (perhaps the best vinyl manufacturer in the world). PRE-ORDER! DOWNLOADS! July 16, 2010 Two days after pre-order began, the Joan of Arc Cassette Box Set sold out. We managed to salvage 5 copies for each release show (in Indianapolis on 8/20 at Melody Inn, and in Chicago on 8/21 at Ronny's) and just 10 copies will be distributed to stores. In order to get your hands on a box set at this point you will need to arrive early to one of the release shows with $50 in hand, or find a badass record store who managed to get their hands on one of 10 copies. HOWEVER all of the cassettes are still available for individual purchase, and even though you may have missed the boat on the custom box set, you can still pre-order all l0 cassette releases for $49 here: Please note that this package deal does not come with any special packaging. Just a white cardboard box, containing each cassette, individually packaged with original artwork and download codes. Individual cassettes will be available for pre-order on August 2. We love you crazy JOA fans. Thank you.
July 13, 2010 Jumping between mathy ballads, acoustic meanderings, minimalist experimentation, and post-rock-indie-epics, Chicago's Joan Of Arc have exhibited a fearless artistry in their 14 years of existence. A seemingly inseparable appendage of the group's only consistent member Tim Kinsella, JOA is, in our humble opinion, one of the most unapologetically prolific bands of our generation - both in output and artistic vision. That is why today we are unbelievably honored to announce that Joyful Noise Recordings will be releasing a limited edition Cassette Box Set- with digital downloads- of the entire JOA catalog. The collection is housed in a custom-built wooden box, elaborately screen-printed, hand-numbered and limited to 100 copies. Each cassette, individually wrapped and featuring the original album art, will also be available for individual purchase and includes high-quality MP3s and lossless audio. This is the first time any JOA albums have been available on cassette. Official release date for this behemoth is September 14, 2010. We are celebrating with two release shows: August 20th in Indianapolis at the Melody Inn (w/ Marmoset, Jookabox, Abner Trio) and August 21st in Chicago at Ronny's (w/ Abner Trio, Maximum Wage) Albums included in this Box Set: The Box Set can be pre-ordered for $49 here: Think about it: DIGITAL SAMPLER: Download the Digital Sampler here: Sampler Tracklisting:
July 9, 2010 Detroit's Child Bite kick-off their US tour today in support of their newly released album The Living Breathing Organ Summer. An eccentric orchestra of punk adrenaline, avant-garde mortar, and lucid epicurean nightmares, this is an album that is both consistently danceable and brazenly psychotic - drawing influence from the likes of The Jesus Lizard, Devo, and Dead Kennedys with applications of soul, synth, and funk laden quirks. As Subba-Cultcha puts it, "If you want to make someone's head explode, here's your album." In addition, the always fresh Tiny Mix Tapes just posted an exclusive video for the album's first single Odd Inn. View the amazing video directed by Katie Barkel HERE TOUR DATES:

May 26, 2010 The new Child Bite album The Living Breathing Organ Summer is now available for PRE-ORDER! Pressed on white/gray vinyl, CD, and Cassette, The Living Breathing Organ Summer is hands-down their most developed, interesting, solid, and insane effort to date - exuding a no-fluff sound that is both consistently danceable and brazenly psychotic. May 10, 2010 On June 15, 2010 Joyful Noise will be releasing a very special recording from one of our favorite bands: the Midwestern juggernaut known as RACEBANNON! Never a force content to deliver obvious moves, the new release from Racebannon sees them joining forces with some friends and releasing...*gasp* a DJ-styled 12" release. Yes folks, Wrap the Body! A collaboration between Racebannon and Jilly Weiss (We Are Hex), and also featuring a full-blown remix from long time friends Yea Big, Kid Static and Stak; this is Racebannon at both their weirdest and yet most recognizable. Yes, the requisite churn, chaos, and darkness are all present and yes, Mike Anderson belts out yet another genre-bending throat-box assault. But the token Bannon weapons collide face-first with programmed beats, samples, and an instantly frenzied vocal contribution from Weiss, who sounds like a banshee possessed by equal parts PJ Harvey, bad acid, and Satan herself. The end result is something that is immediately memorable, catchy, scary, and downright original.Consistent with the format, the 12" showcases the studio cut, as well as instrumental and acapella versions on Side A, and remixes on Side B. Limited to a one-time pressing of 500 copies (on 180gm vinyl), this is an essential purchase for the Racebannon fanatic, as well as all DJ's and vinyl fetishists. PRE-ORDER!
May 3, 2010 JNR is proud to announce the release of the upcoming Child Bite album The Living Breathing Organ Summer. Our favorite Detroit-based "post-everything" band is back. After two full-lengths, 2007's epic EP Gold Thriller, a split with label-mates Stationary Odyssey and a 3-part 7" series (including their JNR-released split with Big Bear), Child Bite have finished their latest and greatest album. The Living Breathing Organ Summer is hands-down their most developed, interesting, solid, and insane effort to date... An eccentric orchestra of punk adrenaline, avant-garde mortar, and lucid epicurean nightmares... The Living Breathing Organ Summer exudes a no-fluff sound that is both consistently danceable and brazenly psychotic - drawing influence from the likes of The Jesus Lizard, Devo, and Dead Kennedys with applications of soul, synth, and funk laden quirks. Do not fret or succumb to the feelings of pretense or fright you might be experiencing. This band is a family, a statement, a hobby, an ethos, an outlet, and a bear hug. The Living Breathing Organ Summer will be released 06/15/10 (in cooperation with our friends at Forge Again Records) on CD, LP, Cassette & Digital - followed by massive tours throughout the United States. DOWNLOADS! March 9, 2009 Joyful Noise Recordings is happy to announce today the signing of Philadelphia-based band Hermit Thrushes. The music of Hermit Thrushes combines touchingly naive bedroom lo-fi with disjointed arrangements, harsh chords, complex rhythms, strange orchestration and awkward melody. This is a thoroughly artful blend of indie rock - like how Captain Beefheart's Magic Band would have sounded had they been raised on Joan of Arc and Polvo, and had a singer that was void of any serious mental illness (though probably not the less serious kind).
