Grampall Jookabox's 2007 debut album Scientific Cricket is finally available on vinyl thanks to our friends at Altin Village & Mine Records. The near-classic debut from Jookabox (as the band would later be called) is a score of sophisticated, epiphanic Alvin and the Chipmunks. There are hints of early blues, notes of civil war ballads, and children's sidewalk-chalk rhymes, all filtered through spastically epic and innovative intuition, creating a final product not unlike the early work of Daniel Johnston, though far more refined.

Joyful Noise is very happy to announce the release of the new Danielson album on cassette (w/ digital). Best of Gloucester County is Danielson's first album in five years - and the followup to their widely acclaimed album "Ships". Featuring the banjo/vocal work of Sufjan Stevens, and a cameo from Jens Lekman, "Best of Gloucester County" displays Danielson's trademark bizarre, squeaky art-folk and theatrical spiritualism in it's most mature and refined state.

What can be said about Akron/Family? From their epic 2007 album "Love is Simple", to the collaborative work with jazz master Hamid Drake on "Meek Warrior" to 2009's "Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free", Akron/Family is a band as free and prolific as they come. And that is right up our alley here at Joyful Noise. Their uniquely original and always shifting blend of folky experimentalism has made them one of the most consistently interesting bands in the modern musical landscape.

Today we are very excited to announce that Joyful Noise will be releasing the band's new album S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT on cassette alongside Dead Oceans' releases of the LP and CD.

Boston quintet Big Bear are jigsaw alchemists. Beginning with their self-titled 2005 debut on Monitor Records, the band has been a beacon of East-Coast-hope to all who seek the reconstructing, recontextualizing and reinventing of aggressive indie rock. Big Bear subvert the ideas of traditional melody and harmony, using vocals as a rhythm instrument and epileptic dual-guitar labyrinths as a snaky logic puzzle. What results is disorienting, uneasy, exciting and somehow intelligible.

In the fall of 2010 Big Bear sadly decided to call it quits. What was even more sad was the fact that they did so with two completed amazing albums left unreleased. Well, we decided it was too grave of a sin to let these albums go unheard, and as of today (December 14, 2010), both albums are available to the masses. Both albums, the unreleased sophomore album Under The Beach and the final EP See Out, are available today via iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, and wherever else people download music these days.
