Joyful Noise is very pleased to announce the release of Bird House - the new collaborative album from Jad Fair + Hifiklub + kptmichigan.
With "Bird House", the legendary Jad Fair has teamed up with prolific French artist Hifiklub and Germany's kptmichigan to produce some of his most artistically engaging music in years. Best known as the founding member of Half Japanese, and collaborator with a slew of artists including Teenage Fanclub, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and Daniel Johnston - Jad Fair has firmly established his stature as a pioneer of lo-fi indie rock.
Unlike the traditionally simple, playful style of Half Japanese, the new LP features hypnotic, fluid musicianship alongside Jad Fair's psychologically imbalanced vocal style. The end result is a strangely listenable blend of atmospherically tempered experimentalism.
Released on January 24, "Bird House" is limited to a one-time pressing of just 300 hand-numbered 12" records. This single-sided LP features original Jad Fair artwork which is screen-printed directly on Side B of the record, and is packaged in a picture-disc sleeve. The first 45 copies are pressed on translucent gold vinyl with black ink, and 255 copies are pressed on translucent yellow vinyl with red ink.

Joyful Noise is very pleased to announce the 2012 Flexi Disc Series! This $4 monthly subscription features new exclusive recordings from 12 of our favorite artists making music today, each limited to just 500 copies on single-sided flexi discs.
WTF is a Flexi Disc?
In case you are unfamiliar, a Flexi Disc is essentially a thin, single-sided vinyl record which is flexible (hence the name), and rather obscure. However it is playable on any standard turntable. Back in the day flexis were often packaged inside magazines and even in cereal boxes.
Beginning this January, the Joyful Noise 2012 Flexi Disc Series will feature a different artist each month for the duration of the year. All of the releases will be limited to 500 copies on single-sided clear flexi discs. Digital will NOT be made available. That's right, these songs will only be available on these 500 physical units. All of the songs featured in the series are 100% new and unreleased and will never be released in any other format. So kiddies, there isn't even a chance you already have this in your iTunes... Literally the only way you will hear these songs is to sign up for the subscription.
Here are the 12 bands featured on the 2012 Flexi Disc Series (in alphabetical order): Akron/Family, Danielson, Dead Rider (ex US Maple), Deerhoof, Jad Fair (Half Japanese), Lou Barlow (Sebadoh/Dinosaur Jr.), Make Believe (ex Cap'n Jazz/Owls/Joan of Arc), of Montreal, Racebannon, Rafter, Richard Swift, and Tortoise.

Victor Villarreal announces new LP on Joyful Noise! November 30, 2011
Joyful Noise is very pleased to present Invisible Cinema - the first proper full-length album from Cap'n Jazz mastermind guitarist Victor Villarreal.
Embodying Villarreal's distinctly innovative and other-worldly guitar style, this album includes a wide spectrum of sonic variety. Hinged on the tumbling rhythms of Villarreal's unique guitar work, the music on "Invisible Cinema" ranges from lush indie-rock-slow-dance ("Enters") to meditative-percussive-drone ("Out Of My Hands") to what Victor does best: how-the-fuck-did-he-play-that-on-one-instrument-and-what-the-hell-is-the-time-signature acoustic guitar work.
Often credited as a pioneer of modern indie rock through his work with Cap'n Jazz, Owls, Ghosts & Vodka, and more recently, Joan of Arc, Victor Villarreal's solo venture brims with unpretentious, child-like optimism. Elements of classical and spanish guitar, as well as indie and metal are all present in this diverse batch of songs. Utilizing a plethora of instruments, and a few recording studios, "Invisible Cinema" is the first fully-realized Victor Villarreal solo material.
Invisible Cinema is limited to just 250 hand-numbered copies on clear vinyl (w/ digital). The album will be released on January 24th, followed by a US tour.
However, the band will have copies with them on their upcoming West Coast tour.

That's right... indie legends Dinosaur Jr. are reissuing their first three albums on cassette via Joyful Noise! Sold as a 3-album custom wooden box set, the Cassette Trilogy includes each album from the classic Dinosaur Jr. canon: 1985's Dinosaur, 1987's You're Living All Over Me, and 1988's Bug.
Limited to a one-time release of 500 hand-numbered copies, the Dinosaur Jr. Cassette Trilogy is packaged in a custom-built, screen-printed wooden box, featuring the classic Dinosaur Jr. "monster" artwork. The individual cassettes are manufactured on high-quality chrome tape with purple, black, and white shells. Each are individually wrapped with 8 panel original artwork.

Joyful Noise Recordings is happy to announce today the signing of Indianapolis-based band Marmoset. Throughout the last 14 years, the enigmatic trio known as Marmoset have fostered a near-mythical cult status with their claustrophobic, moody, and ethereal blend of indie pop. The band's subtle take on primordial-post-punk spawns songs whose overly-simple structures seem to speak in tongues.
Beginning on January 1, 1995, Marmoset have undergone a decade-plus of being under-appreciated (yet critically acclaimed) heroes of lo-fi indie rock. Marmoset were one of the first bands signed to Secretly Canadian label back in 1997. Having released a total of 6 recordings through Secretly Canadian (including the subtle, eccentric pop masterpiece “Record In Red” - which Pitchfork says "ranks among the best albums released by Secretly Canadian") Marmoset have found a new home with Joyful Noise, who began re-issuing their catalog on vinyl in 2007. 2009 finds Marmoset at their most energetic, revelatory, and sensational - with a stripped-down, punchier sound – continuing the band's unruly trajectory with the lazy swagger, slimy melody, and profound simplicity that is Tea Tornado. Fans of everything from The Velvet Underground to The Breeders will appreciate these simple and surreal songs with twisted sensibilities and perplexingly sexy vocals.
The new album "Tea Tornado" will be released August 4, 2009 on Joyful Noise. Following the release, the band is going on a rare tour of the Midwest and East Coast (tentative dates are below).
