ABOUT JNR:Joyful Noise is an Indianapolis, IN based record label specializing in a variety of ridiculous music. "Experimental indie rock" is often thrown around. We prefer to think of it as "symphonic noise-pop" or "schizophrenic-math-dance". We strive to release music that is lies somewhere between pop and noise, by bands who are artistically honest, exploratory, and often haphazard. JNR is not a traditional noise label, nor are we interested in traditional indie rock. We do however love when these two sides of the spectrum intersect in interesting ways. The label originally began in 2003 in Bloomington Indiana as an outlet for the noise-rock touring machine Melk the g6-49. The label was founded by Karl Hofstetter, who also played drums in many early JNR releases. Since the somewhat slow and masturbatory beginnings the label has developed to be a home for 20+ amazing and diverse bands such as of Montreal, Dinosaur Jr, Memory Map, Deerhoof, Joan Of Arc, Sleeping Bag, Child Bite and many others. We have also co-released albums with our friends at Polyvinyl, Secretly Canadian, Dead Oceans, and Asthmatic Kitty. As a label working to make music relevant in the digital age, we like to focus on limited edition specialty releases on analog formats, coupled with high-quality digital downloads (typically in 320kbps MP3 and FLAC formats).
