Dale Crover "Tiny Dirt" / Deerhoof "I Hear An Echo"
When Deerhoof started in 1994 there was only one local band I would go to see literally every time they played and that was The Melvins. They opened every show in that era with "Charmicarmicat" and it was non fast and it was non quiet and it was non light. I often cried from the intensity of it. But it was also something else that I never felt has been appropriately appreciated: funny. It took me a few tries to find a strong drum style of my own coz at that time I was simply a DC imitator. "I Hear An Echo" is at first glance a song featuring jazz chords but upon closer inspection a show heavy song in the style of The Melvins.
