Following 2020'sThis Devastating Map, Jason Albertini has solidified and simplified the Helvetia sound with Essential Aliens. The character of the recordings are informed with warm fuzz and intimate room sounds. The songs are short blasts of psychedelic chill, unrooted by genre, a rummage around an alien radio dial.
Available for preorder now, Essential Aliens will be available on Digital, "Ectoplasm Clear" Vinyl, and Limited Edition VIP Vinyl. The VIP Edition is pressed on the unique vinyl color pictured below – which we're calling "Cerulean Blue Inside Ectoplasm Clear" vinyl.
VIP Edition Vinyl is limited to 400 pressed to Cerulean Blue inside 'Ectoplasm Clear' vinyl with yellow and white splatter. Includes bonus 7" Flexi of unreleased track "For Sam," written in memory of Sam Jayne (Love as Laughter).
Introducing: Safe In Sound Home Recordings From Quarantine
Struggle and isolation often spawn great art. In this strange moment of history, we can't help but see the potential for creation... With all of our artist's sidelined from touring and regular life plans, we decided to commission the artists of Joyful Noise to record a new song from within their quarantine environment.
The 2xLP collection features new songs from a wide variety of artists, including Swamp Dogg, Deerhoof, Kishi Bashi & El Ten Eleven, C.J. Boyd & Will Oldham, Helvetia, The Ophelias, Kramer, Rob Crow & his kids, Thor Harris, Mike Adams At His Honest Weight, No Joy & Josh Kastner, Jad Fair & Hifiklub, Tall Tall Trees, SUUNS, Good Fuck, Dumb Numbers, Sound of Ceres, Magic Sword, and Ohmme.
The album is now available in its entirety via Joyful Noise website or Bandcamp. Available for download, and limited edition 2xLP White Vinyl (w/ instant download). 100% of the money goes to the artists, or to a charity of their choice.
Last week was an intense week, in an unprecedented year, and we hope that this bit of news might bring a little lightness to your day: JNR and Helvetia (formed by Jason Albertini in 2005) announce new LP This Devastating Map, out Friday, August 7, 2020.
While Duster (co-founded by Albertini) dwells in a broken down space station lost to the cosmos, Helvetiaʼs sound is decidedly more earthbound: guitars sparkle and soar beyond their means with hushed vocals transcribing aching personal struggles. This Devastating Map is full of unlikely hooks and odd shapes that desire repeat listening
VIP VINYL is limited to 350 hand-numbered copies pressed on Black/Milky Clear with Pink Splatter vinyl.
