Congrats to Big Business on the release their 5th album, "Command Your Weather"! With this one, the band went back to the original two-person lineup made up of Jared Warren (Melvins) and Coady Willis (Melvins). "Command Your Weather" is available on gold or black LP, CD, cassette, or digital.
It's heavy, it's loud, and it's now available in the JNR Store! Get it here!
The band's upcoming release invokes the spirit of Pure Fun while appeasing their love of Doomed Art. Necronomidonkeykongimicon is an auditory tome of such importance that it needs to be experienced before the Secret Bastards find a way to marginalize it out of existence forever.
Goblin Cock is a band from beyond time, beyond space, beyond your naive concept of dimension in METAL. Since before your pathetic "god" had supposedly "created" you and your kind, Lord Phallus was hunkered in a cybertimeship/fun-dungeon skating the layers of what was considered "true metal" in all societies and in all generations. Eventually His Majesty realized that he really didn't care and launched a full-scale war against bland metal with an emphasis on ACTUALLY HAVING A GOOD TIME!
Available for preorder here, in purple vinyl, black vinyl, CD, digital. VIP exclusive comes in Halloween Orange vinyl w/ Blood Red Splatter and a bonus EP, a Cock Opera entitled “Dragonfucker” on a black 12” – with a screen-printed b-side, featuring visual art by Craig Horky. Stream the single "Something Haunted" below and check out the premiere on Stereogum HERE.
We here at JNR are super lucky to have been able to collaborate with Jad and David Fair on multiple occasions. Half Japanese put out their last album with us a couple years ago and Jad was our first artist in residence. We think that their music really embodies the idea of what Joyful Noise is supposed to be about. Getting interesting music to people who can relate to the creators.
With Shake, Cackle and Squall we see the duo going back to their roots. Two guys, some drums, and a guitar. It contains their signature lo-fi sound and honest, from-the-heart lyrics. The magic day is August 5th and is available for pre order now on CD, LP, Digital, or a nice limited edition yellow colored vinyl version for our VIPs.
Brooklyn Vegan is streaming the first single "In Between Alive and Dead" right now. Read the article HERE and stream the song below!
This week's GIF brings the smackdown. Sometimes you just need Perfecto! and Ders to put someone in their place. And there's two girls falling into a funky wormhole.
Mark Dippel is a man of many hats, and when he is not handling Joyful's mail orders, he is working on his own music and preparing for his live shows.
Joyful Nick: What have you been listening to this week?
Marl Dippel: "WHAM! - Make It Big"
JN: Tell us a little about what your role is at Joyful Noise.
MD: "I do the Joyful Noise & Lil Bub mail orders and after that I help out with the rest of the fulfillment."
JN: What makes Joyful Noise special to you?
MD: "I've wanted to be in the music industry my whole life, and once I got hired on here at Joyful Noise it was the first time I had really been all the way in the business, so that is something special to me"
JN: What's the craziest thing that has happened in the mail room?
MD: "I got to put together the joyful noise gift bag for George Clinton!"
JN: If you had to describe yourself with a sandwich, how many pickles would it have?
MD: "ZERO! It wouldn't even be on the plate or in the same kitchen, and I'd prefer if they weren't in the same state."
JN: What was the last dream you had?
MD: "It was probably something to do with moving the warehouse"
JN: What kind of car fits your current mood?
MD: "The Back to the Future DeLorean"
JN: How did you get started making music?
MD: "My very first start was enjoying the middle school band, and from there I just kept learning more instruments and music and kept working on it from 6th grade on" You can listen to him on his SoundCloud here:
Thanks to Mark for all the work he's done and the chance to talk to him!
And the powerful. Big Business's latest single "Blacker Holes" from their upcoming release has us pinned against an alley wall, screaming, "I don't need your money. I just want to fuck you up."
They totally can and they totally will with music like this. Giving us the bass business is what they do best, and "Blacker Holes" is a nice return to basics for the duo, harkening back to the best of Kyuss and Nomeansno while managing to equal anything released in the Stoner-Rock genre for the last two decades.Stay tuned for more of the best loudness from Big Business.
Listen at your own risk. The test pressings did this:
In case you missed it, our buds at Tiny Mix Tapes premiered a video from the forthcoming collaboration between our friends and faves Jad Fair (of Half-Japanese), Hifiklub, and kptmichigan (you might know him as Michael Beckett). It's always nice to see people as excited as we are about the artists we love!
The song combined with Jad Fair's original animation feels like a live video feed into a David Lynch daydream. Just pour the man some more coffee already, geez.
Returning to JNR with their second full-length LP is Dumb Numbers! This super group of sorts thrives on existing in flux. Featuring Adam Harding with such collaborators as: Lou Barlow (Sebadoh/Dinosaur Jr),Dale Crover (Melvins/Nirvana), David Yow (The Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid), Murph (Dinosaur Jr) and Bobb Bruno (Best Coast).
The album is an ambient journey through a foggy forest filled with discarded televisions and abandoned grunge mix tapes. The album is out August 19th and is available on standard black or an awesome purple LP, CD, or digital. The VIP edition, limited to 500 copies, comes with blue and magenta swirled vinyl, and includes a 7" with a track from Dinosaur Jrs Murph not available anywhere else.
Brooklyn Vegan just premiered the track "Girl On The Screen" and called it "a hazy dose of shoegazy rock." Check it out below!
